Hey guys, Amanda here from the social media/website department at the League office. Just thought I’d check in, say hello and share some of the online resources we’re working on here in the off-season for you.
First, I wanted to make sure you know that we update our Delicious account every day – http://delicious.com/womensprosoccer. Delicious is an online/social bookmarking tool where users can access all the news articles published about WPS and the teams since February 2009. They’re organized by date, source, content, players and teams. Personally, I think it’s interesting to see what bloggers/news outlets write about us the most, and what the main topics of interest are. It’s a lot of work, but we think it’s important to keep track of our news, so I hope fans know to take advantage of this service.
Second, we’re in the process of updating the WPS Twitter list – http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/connect/wps-twitter-list.aspx. This is a page on our website that lists all the players, coaches, general managers, some front office staff, and owners who are currently Tweeting. Sometimes people unintentionally fly under the radar, or start new accounts without telling us, so if you know of any Tweeters that I don’t, please post their Twitter accounts in the comments below and I’ll be sure to add them to the master list.
Third, we’re revamping the e-newsletter design. You can sign up for the newsletter here: http://www.womensprosoccer.com/news/league-insider. Our goal remains to bring you the latest and greatest WPS news to your Inbox every other week (in the off-season, every week in-season), but we’re expanding on that to bring more player interest stories from the teams to the forefront. Hopefully you’ll see that the redesign reflects that, check out the “Around the League” section at the bottom.
Finally, Twitter. You may have noticed that twitter.com/womensprosoccer has gone from 7,000 -> 26,000 followers in the past week. We’re excited that we were added to the “Suggested Users” list. I just wanted to share the news because I’m super pumped. We were a very early adopter of Twitter, using it to Tweet the results of the 2009 WPS Draft back in January, and our commitment to growing and developing this community has never ceased. Thanks to everybody for your tweets and retweets, comments and direct messages.
Okay, that’s a quick update from my end. I’ll be posting more frequent updates from our department so if you have any questions, ideas, suggestions I’m all ears. Thanks for keeping the WPS Fan Corner alive and vibrant in the off-season!
