Emma Hayes is calling Marcia McDermott and Peter Wilt to report a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation.

On Sunday I took a drive to Lafayette, Indiana, with Emma Hayes and Alyse LaHue to watch FC Indiana vs. Ottawa Fury. This was the W-League Central Conference Championship and it was played at Purdue University.

What a great game!

In sum, FC Indiana scored first, then Ottawa equalized but it was called offside. FC Indiana went in to halftime with a 1-0 lead.

However, we saw a much different Canadian side after halftime – energized, organized, composed, and playing the ball effectively into wide spaces. Hence, Ottawa scored on 2 set pieces. FC Indiana didn’t lay down though… They came back to score a final goal in the 90th minute!!! Score at the end of regulation was 2-2.

In overtime, Indiana put in two goals beyond a tired Ottawa defense, and although Ottawa managed to sink a PK deep into extra time, it wasn’t enough to keep FCI from advancing to the W-League Final Four this weekend. The final score was 4-3. Check out www.fcindiana.com for the full story and details.

Below are a couple post-game images I took with my camera phone. On the left, Emma was chatting with Shek Borkowski (FC Indiana coach) after the game. On the right, Emma met Ottawa Fury’s Head Coach, Craig Smith.

Hey Amanda!

Heard it was a crazy game! Was sorta rooting for the Fury, though! :)

And, just a heads up, but my lovely nation’s capital is spelt Ottawa, not Ottowa.

Take care!

Thanks for the tip Elaine :-) I’ve fixed the misspelling. Take care.
