One of our summer interns, Adrienne, drove home to New Mexico on Tuesday morning to finish her Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine. We had a going away dinner on Monday night to thank her for all her hard work. We’re really going to miss both her spirit and her work ethic here in the Red Stars annex!
I thought now would be a good time to post about some of the really cool things we’ve been working on for the Chicago Red Stars Olympic experience.
We’re super-excited about the OFFICIAL launch of the WPS Social Network on MONDAY AUGUST 4th!!! Sorry if I let the cat out of the bag Karyn, at least I didn’t give away the URL, fans.womensprosoccer.com (good try if you just hopped over there, but it’ll be locked until Monday). OK, so here’s the scoop – We’ll be using this online network to “Bring Beijing to your Desktop”. With our Head Coach and GM at the Olympic Games, and plenty of viewing parties here in Chicago (Hooray for the Globe pub at 6:45am!), we’re looking forward to an action-packed month of August. Here are some of the things we’re doing.
* Live chatrooms with Head Coach Emma Hayes while she’s in China.
* Live online chats with President Peter Wilt.
* Head Coach Emma Hayes and General Manager Marcia McDermott blogging from the Olympics.
* Viewing parties at The Globe Pub, and yes they serve both breakfast and beer at 6:30am.
* We’ll be promptly posting videos and photos.
* Blogs from our President and each of our Directors so you know exactly what’s going on here at the Red Stars front office.
* Newsfeeds from the Olympic Games and WPS.
* Links to many forums and discussions.
Check back frequently as we launch each of our initiatives. And if you have any ideas, please feel free to send them our way. We’re always looking for creative thoughts and new ways to reach out to the soccer community in Chicagoland and beyond. By the way, we’ve set up an AIM and a Skype account so you can get us during the day. This will get you to the receptionist’s desk, that’s Kait. She logs in every morning for your convenience.

On a side note, every Tuesday morning, we have a staff meeting here at the office. This week, Marcia asked me to present to the group about social media marketing and how it can benefit us as an organization. We went through the Red Stars online marketing goals and objectives, what SMM really means, and how we can utilize it to both sell tickets and create emotional connections with our fans. Then everybody on our staff created a profile in the new network. We talked about writing posts to mazimize SEO and different link building strategies. I tried to make it as interactive, productive, and informative as I could in the limited span of 1 hour.
Personally, it’s been extremely rewarding to see my friends overcome their hesitations with social media and build personal profiles to help our business grow. SUPER BIG THANKS to Peter Wilt, Marcia McDermott and Emma Hayes for leading the way!!! We’re wrapping the Internet in Red Stars one nOOb at a time :-)
