Line Item 9: Internet technology. How WordPress and VodPod are helping women’s soccer.

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve just started as the Chair of the NSCAA Women’s Committee. This is definitely a dynamic group of people who are involved with the growth and development of women’s soccer, and more specifically, women coaching soccer.

As with any national organization, it’s tough to stay connected on a regular basis. Imagine scheduling a conference call with head college coaches, US Olympic medalists, Pro League directors of operations, general managers, business professionals, national marketing directors and CEO’s… From DC to LA. Needless to say, it’s not easy. (I swear the Chair before me, Sue Ryan, is a super-human.)

So today I put together a new blog, exclusively for our group. Of course, I used WordPress (because it’s the best), and I can manage that site, and yours truly (Soccer Science) from the same admin page. Even more, WordPress has a great privacy feature that enables me to manage the users. To start, I gave everybody a general password, but as time goes on and my group gets a bit more tech-savvy, I plan to eliminate it and give each person individual access.

I posted my first “vlog” to the Women’s Committee Internal Website, which is a whole new world for me. I even used Vodpod to host my videos in a widget on the sidebar – what a cool site!

Just another way technology is revolutionizing the way we see soccer.
